Volunteer for Project iSWEST 2018

Description of Volunteer Roles

We are on a mission to raise the next generation of African innovators and you have the opportunity to be a part of this mission. At its 5th anniversary, Project iSWEST 2018 will run concurrently in two locations in Ghana – Accra and Kumasi. Before Project iSWEST 2018 (April-June)

Note: Project iSWEST Roadshow is an outreach program to engage high school students to improve awareness of Project iSWEST and encourage them to take part. The Project iSWEST Roadshow will take place before the main program from April to June.

Lead Ambassador

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the execution of the Project iSWEST Roadshow, either alone or in collaboration with partner organisations.
  • Supervise all Ambassadors
  • Draw a strategic plan for the Project iSWEST Roadshow
  • Ensure all logistics (transportation, posters, fliers, application forms etc) necessary for the roadshow are ready in time for the Roadshow
  • Coordinate correspondence between Nsesa Foundation and school authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the project
  • Visit schools to publicise Project iSWEST

Requirements

Ambassador

Responsibilities

  • Visit schools to publicise Project iSWEST
  • Engage with school authorities to secure approval for Project iSWEST Roadshow
  • Provide and collect completed application forms at the schools
  • Any other duties assigned by the Lead Ambassador

Requirements

  1. Knowledgeable about Nsesa Foundation’s vision and mission, and the goals of Project iSWEST
  2. Able to travel to various schools
  3. Able to work with minimal supervision
  4. Excellent and effective communications skills

During Project iSWEST 2018 (July)

Project iSWEST Lead

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the smooth running of the program
  • Ensure prudent use of resources and finances to achieve program goals within budget
  • Ensure that all teams accomplish their assigned responsibilities

Requirements

Data Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the right quantity (all students fill the surveys) and quality (accuracy and no mixups, right questions etc) of data is collected promptly
  • Design and maintain all survey questionnaires
  • Write the final Project iSWEST Report in conjunction with the Publicity Coordinator
  • Ensure that all surveys and questionnaires are promptly filled
  • Remind students of their daily reflection essays
  • Assist students to complete questionnaires where necessary
  • Administer exit interviews
  • Write daily reports of the program (logistics, teaching, challenges, highlights etc)
  • Any other duties assigned by the Project iSWEST Lead

Requirements

  2. Good working knowledge of the Google Drive platform
  3. Experience with word processing and spreadsheet applications
  4. Excellent written communication skills

Publicity Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Draw and implement a strategic publicity plan for Project iSWEST
  • Write press releases and maintain official media kit
  • Engage with media houses and bloggers to ensure wide coverage of Project iSWEST
  • Manage all public relations issues during Project iSWEST
  • Post regular updates of the program on our social media channels
  • Engage with followers on social media channels
  • Create engaging content for social media channels
  • Capture pictures and videos from the program
  • Collate pictures of judges, mentors, volunteers and facilitators
  • Write the final Project iSWEST Report in conjunction with the Data Coordinator
  • Any other duties assigned by the Project iSWEST Lead

Requirements

  3. Excellent and effective communications skills, both orally and in writing
  4. Familiar with Social Media engagement

Lead Facilitator

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in an engaging, hands-on and timely manner
  • Supervise and guide assistant facilitator(s)
  • Provide feedback on curriculum and students
  • Coach students during innovation phase
  • Issuing and grading exercises and assignments
  • Any other duties assigned by the Project iSWEST Lead

Assistant Facilitator

Responsibilities

  • Support Lead Facilitators to teach courses
  • Assist students with in-class assignments and examples to ensure effective understanding
  • Provide feedback on curriculum and students
  • Coach students during innovation phase
  • Grading exercises and assignments
  • Any other duties assigned by the Lead Facilitator

Requirements

  1. Knowledgeable about Nsesa Foundation’s vision and mission, and the goals of Project iSWEST
  2. Lead and Assistant Facilitators are required to have expertise in one of the courses (Arduino, Coding and Innovation) pertaining to the specific role.   3. Able to teach and coach students

Logistics Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily delivery of food for lunch
  • Ensure proper maintenance and availability of the program venue
  • Ensure availability of teaching aids e.g. markers, board cleaners, projector, speakers, team notebooks, post-it notes etc.
  • Ensure availability of steady internet connection
  • Coordinate provision of laptops for students without laptops
  • Record all daily expenses and report to Project iSWEST Lead
  • Any other duties assigned by the Project iSWEST Lead

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Who should apply to be a volunteer?

 We are looking for individuals who share in our vision and are passionate and committed to raising the next generation of African innovators. If this is you, then don’t hesitate to apply.

2. When is the deadline for applications?

The deadline for all applications is May 16th, 2018. However, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis so it’s best to apply as early as you can.

3. When will the decisions be announced?

Ambassadors will be selected on a rolling basis with decisions communicated as soon as they are made. Decision for all other roles will be communicated latest by June 1st, 2018.

 4. How will volunteers be selected?

Volunteers will be selected based on reponses to questions in the application form. Additionally, applicants for key roles will be shortlisted for online interviews to be conducted in May.

5. What do I get for volunteering?

Volunteers will be provided with lunch and an allowance to cover transportation costs during the program. Volunteers will also receive certificates of appreciation.
